How to use this?
Want to go somewhere and share a house with other people who are working remotely for a few weeks or months? Sign up. Then open a new topic and title it something like "Sep 2016 - Bali". People join in and you can start living together!
See what happens. Tell a little bit about your plans and when you'd like to rent a place and for how many people. You could grab some listings from Airbnb that you seem fit and post the pics here.
Then if you see enough people who like to join, organize it in the thread and see if it works!
I've been highly skeptical of coliving. I see coliving projects start that are either much too expensive for what they give you (e.g. you could just as well rent an Airbnb yourself and it'd be cheaper), or they're too cheap and struggle to make profit for the organizers.
I think we're doing it all wrong.
Coliving should be self-organizing
People should organize coliving themselves. It doesn't have to be as hard that a company needs to be organizing it for you. Just get people together and rent a place.
The issue is how do you find people to do it with? Let's say me and my friend want to work from Bali in October. Together we can't afford a villa there, but if we get 6 more people together we could. And it'd be fun if those 6 people were interesting too!
(Previously this was a publicly editable spreadsheet. A lot of people used it. It got quite messy. But the response was good.)
So this is stage 2 of colive.co.
Now I've opted for a forum-type system (running on Discourse), to allow for user profiles. So that people can see who they can or want to share a house with.
It's purposely very open and not very moderated to allow the messiness of self-organizing.
If this works, the next stage is to build my own platform that allows listings and people to join in. With some monetization built in too.
